Bulloch bash offers some heather among the magnolias
It looked like the gathering of the clans at the Country Club of the South’s clubhouse June 12, but actually it was the Magnolia Ball, Bulloch Hall’s annual fund raiser.
Bulloch Hall, the 1839 Greek revival mansion built by Maj. James Stephens Bulloch, is one of the crown jewels of antebellum architecture in the South.
It was the home of Mittie Bulloch Roosevelt, and her son, President Theodore Roosevelt, visited the home during his presidency.
Owned by the city of Roswell, Bulloch is maintained by a non-profit organization which provides tours of the house and docents who provide the historical interpretation of the mansion.
Ed Tate, chairman of the Bulloch Hall Board of Directors, decreed this year’s ball would be celebrated in highland style to honor the Bulloch’s Scottish ancestry. Thus did dress kilts with clan tartans, sporrans, and the sgian dubh — a ceremonial dagger tucked in one of the stockings — sprout like heather upon the moorlands.
