FORSYTH
Talk about what's happening in Forsyth County.

Return to Blog

Before you vote for Forsyth County Commissioners
please consider the following...
July 04, 2008 | 10:34 AM

I invite EVERYONE in Forsyth County...BEFORE the July 15th election...to come and sit forward of the County Council Chambers for even one visit to either a Planning Commission or Board Of Commissioners assembly...Really take in the complexity of what's going on about you...Imagine then Your responsibility in understanding everything put forth in that environment of Developers and their Lawyers, The County and their Lawyers, those "Concerned Citizens" and THEIR lawyer, etc. ad nauseum...All presenting thier Maps/Sketches/Concepts to their particular interest...both stoic and emotionally...And YOU as a Commissioner have to sort it all out...while that big digital clock rolling red numbers spins away the seconds...while the focus of all those "Interested" entities discribed above and the Live Media attending pour over your every squint...waiting for YOUR decision that's about to effect so many lives thereout...all this a "Part time position" that pays peanuts (in Money) unless your behelden to "Special Interests"...the likes of which are less considerate of "The Community and it's Environment" than their 'Share-holders" perhaps?

District 4 Incumbant Dave Richard may arguably be somewhat of a "Shark" for his tact at times...but for the "Landscape" today, I've come to believe now that his tenacity and experience over the last four years puts him at the top of the food-chain in just that environment, and if you haven't observed him "working" in this environment--after objectively reviewing his successes in it--then how can you fairly discard his candidacy?

I have observed somewhat those same charecteristics (sans some degree of the "Shark" aspect) of District 5 Candidate Jim Boff. He has been very well spoken in debate of the issues at those I have attended, and for his expressed concerns regarding that "Lack of Communication" occouring between that varying levels of our governments, as well too for his comprehension of and concern for the well being of both our Economic and Natural Environment. He was intrumental in the development of SPLOST VI, and though I question some of those prioritiaztions of roadway development, this has encouraged me to strongly support his candidacy as well for his comprehensive understanding of (and hopefully resoulution to!) Our traffic issues.

Incumbant District 2 Commissioner Brian Tam has his achievments Countywide, and though our Commission functions "At Large", I have some concerns. Illuminating one would be the inequity of demiographically deserved benefits flowing toward District 2 (basically South Forsyth County) as acerbated by Commissions past, where I feel that situation should have been resolved during his tenure...And I'm not sure that situation wasn't exacerbated by it...Whereas I remain to-date undecided while I continue to evaluate his candidacy further in consideration of his re-appointment.

The Other District 2 Candidates are viable, have identified with My concerns, and have offered promising improvements toward the address of these inequities...But I'm not sure Our "Environment" (discribed above) as it stands today affords us payment of any "Learning Curve" for having someone of less experience in that "Seat"--especially at this critical juncture in time regarding the prudent restraint of further Growth and Development and other issues as well--And there too is where Commissioner Brian Tam--For his experience within it today--may be realized as the most prudent Candidate to have expedite what solutions can be procured toward resolving these inequities and concerns.

That, however, still remains to be seen by me...

I must then encorage all concerned to attend these "Debates" as they are available to do so.

That said, I applaud ALL of our Candidates for comming forth in thier endeavors of working toward the betterment of Forsyth County and its Environment.

Sincerley,

Jack Gleason

Dave Richard at the top of the food chain? Mr. Richard has demonstrated, without qualification that he lacks the singularly most important trait of a politician. He has proven himself whether by virtue of his bombastic temperment and his lack of cognitive flexibility, incapable of even the slightest and rudimentary ability to view any issue from a perspective other than his own. What the residents of this county cannot afford is another term of Mr. Richard's judgments. Be sure that if he is re-elected all we will have from him are his judgments. I encourage all to investigate Mr. Bell, Mr.Richard's opponent. It is refreshing indeed to envision a commissioner from District 4 who understands the necessity for building a consensus and working with those who he might not agree with in order to ensure an outcome beneficial to the residents of this county.

Mr. Patrick Bell is a fine candidate for the Commish 4 spot. He will bring integrity and professionalism to the table, this is something I believe wholeheartedly. Hats off to everyone throwing their hat in the ring too! To learn more go to - www.teambell.org
