Johns Creek 911 center moving forward

January 14, 2009 JOHNS CREEK - The city is moving closer to its own 911 center and officials have agreed on a name for the authority that will oversee operations.
Johns Creek entered a 5 1/2 year agreement with the city of Sandy Springs and iXP Corporation last year to create a joint 911 center, which will be referred to as "CHATCOMM."
According to Johns Creek City Manager John Kachmar, the 911 center will take over Fulton County's duties at midnight Aug. 1.
"We expect to be fully up and operational," said Kachmar, who added that the authority is 100 percent on track regarding the start-up timeline.
The 911 call center, which is located in Sandy Springs, will be a 24 hours a day, seven days a week operation and will meet all industry standards, according to Kachmar.
He added that the cities will have access to statistics and records that they don't have now.
"We will be operating in North Fulton the most advanced public safety point...I would say one of the most advanced public safety points in the state," said Kachmar.
