Johns Creek wants to hear from residents, businesses
January 14, 2009
JOHNS CREEK - Mayor Mike Bodker wants to hear from you. He told City Council members at their Dec. 12 meeting that he would like to hear Johns Creek residents' and business owners' opinions about the proposed changes to the city's sign ordinance.

"I'm disappointed that we've seen no public comment about something that's important to the businesses in the city," said Bodker.

City Council agreed to table the discussion of amending an article of the zoning ordinance that includes the city's sign ordinance and decided to schedule another public hearing at its Jan. 26 meeting.

Council members discussed segments of the proposed changes to the sign ordinance including changeable copy signs, banners and wayfinding signs, among others.

Bodker said he hopes to get the word out in the community about the importance of the sign ordinance and anticipates more residents and business owners to voice their opinions. No one in the audience spoke during the public comment portion of the City Council meeting Jan. 12.

One area of the proposed sign ordinance includes changing banner restrictions specifically for graduation season. Dozens of Johns Creek neighborhoods post graduation banners listing the names of that year's graduates who live in a particular subdivision.

The proposed change would allow one banner per lot during the months of May and June without having to pay $25 for a banner permit.

A public hearing on the sign ordinance will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 26 at City Hall, 12000 Findley Road.

Thanks for your comment. We will get the ordinance on-line today. We should have thought of that. Really. But, what we did think of was a quick, easy, convenient way for you to give feedback and that is our -basically- hyper government Email application - Speak2Gov - on our home page. Register (takes 20 seconds), about two clicks and off your feedback goes to any one of a number of councils or organizations of your choosing.

They Mayor and City Council want feedback on the revised sign ordinance. Has this ordinance been printed in the Herald? Does the article provide a link to the ordinance so residents can read it? Writing an article about the City Council's desire for feedback without providing residents with easy access to the ordinance is not very helpful. If the Mayor and City Council want citizen feedback they have to work a little harder to get the ordinance out to the public for review.
