Weighing in at 5 pounds, 15 ounces, Tristan was born just 18 minutes after the clock struck midnight on Jan. 1, 2009.
Tristan was honored with being the first baby born in 2009 at Northside Hospital-Forsyth. Tristan's mother Dawn went into labor early on Dec. 31 and just hours later a healthy 19 inch baby came. Kapustka said she tried "to hold off until the New Year" to have baby Tristan. The proud parents said they "were excited to have a New Year's baby but it just felt like another day."
Tristan is a name they got from the Smallwood's sister and Dee is a family name.
Kapustka and Smallwood were both hoping and very excited to have another boy.
Dawn, 23 and Nathan, 24 have two other children together. Ethan, four and Makayla, 2.
In recognition of the New Year's baby, the hospital gave the Goltz family a giant gift basket filled with newborn essentials such as onesies, bath accessories, toys and more. The Northside Hospital-Forsyth Auxiliary gave the family a wooden rocking horse and Our365, the company with whom Northside contracts for baby photos, gave the family a gift certificate for free photos.
