2008-12-11 COMMUNITY NEWS | Adopt pet for Christmas in Forsyth
|
| |
December 05, 2008 It's not too late to adopt a homeless pet this holiday season and have Santa's helpers deliver them on Christmas day.
The Humane League of Lake Lanier – Forsyth County's largest volunteer animal shelter – is encouraging families to open up their hearts to a homeless pet this holiday season. Adopt a pet by Dec 23 and a volunteer will deliver the new family member to your home on Christmas day.
The housing market and economy has been especially hard on shelters.
"Everyone thinks about the Christmas puppy, but it's the displaced adult pets that really need a home," said Humane League President Beth Mulrooney. "Most of these dogs are housebroken and are great family pets. Their families could just not afford to keep them. There is every sort of pet in rescue needing help. Please open up your home for the holidays and save a life."
The Humane League does not support pets as a surprise gift outside of a family, and all the household's adults should be involved in the adoption. The delivery area is limited.
Visit the virtual shelter at www.LanierPets.com or come to the adoption event on Saturday, Dec. 20 at PETsMART in Alpharetta, across from North Point Mall, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
