December 02, 2008 JOHNS CREEK - Johns Creek police are closed-mouth about the arrest of a man accused of the Nov. 9 home invasion in the gated Country Club of the South community in which a teenage girl was attacked.
Her father fought off the assailant, being bloodied in the process while chasing him through the house.
Rosemary Taylor, a spokeswoman for the Johns Creek Police Department, confirmed a suspect has been arrested for the alleged crime. However, she said because the case is still under investigation, police are not releasing the suspect's identity or the charges against him. That includes explaining how a suspect could have gotten into the gated community.
"More information will be released later, once that investigation has been completed," she said.
According to a report of the incident, Johns Creek police were called to a home on Old Southwick Pass shortly before 3 a.m. The family told police their teenage daughter was asleep in the living room when she was awakened by someone putting a hand over her mouth and holding her down.
The girl said she began to scream, and her father came into the room.
The father told police he saw a stocky man in the darkened living room and they began fighting. The father was hit in the left eye. He then chased the man through the house until the suspect escaped through an open window in the basement.
Investigators reported it appeared the window had been "popped in some way" and that there was no broken glass. There were also black marks in a stairwell police believed were connected to the break-in.
The three other members of the family were in other areas of the house and didn't see anything, said police.
The suspect made off with both parents' wallets, which contained credit cards and identification.
