Victim out $150K in apparent tax scheme

A Buford man told Forsyth County investigators Nov. 21 that he believes an Atlanta-based real estate tax company has stolen $150,000 he deposited with them in June.

The victim said he gave the company the money for a tax exchange transaction he was trying to broker on a piece of property. However, he could never obtain a purchase agreement.

The man said the company promised to return the cash within six months. When he never got his money back, the victim said he spoke with the owner of the company, who told him the money is not in their account and they do not know where it went. Instead, the woman told him she would borrow the money and pay him back Nov. 19. That never happened.

Nearly $40K in bad checks

A representative from a Peachtree Parkway-based bank called Forsyth deputies Nov. 18 after a customer reported nearly $40,000 in fake transactions from June.

The victim, who lives in Nashville, Tenn., said the checks were written June 18 and 20 to the tune of $39,500. Investigators reported the transactions were linked to other fraud cases from around the same time.

She wasn't horsing around

Forsyth County deputies reported Nov. 21 that a Lawrenceville man told them he was assaulted at a home on Camp Road in Suwanee. The victim said he had gotten into an argument with a female acquaintance of his girlfriend over him not leaving her property. In retaliation, she reportedly whipped him with a "horse rope."

Deputies noted the victim had lacerations on his upper back. He was explained the procedure to file a magistrate warrant for assault.

Car rolls over woman

Forsyth fire, EMS and Sheriff's Office personnel helped pull a woman from under her own car Nov. 13 after it reportedly backed over her in the Riverbrooke subdivision in Suwanee.

According to a report of the incident, the victim, 36, had stopped to get the mail when the car, which was accidentally left in neutral, backed down the driveway and ran over her, trapping her underneath.

Witnesses on scene activated the emergency brake on the car after the initial incident, worried it was still moving.

After crew raised the vehicle, the victim was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville with multiple injuries.
