November 11, 2008 FORSYTH COUNTY - Forsyth deputies arrested a 39-year-old Norcross man Oct. 30 after he allegedly falsely told them he was a police officer.
According to a report of the incident, deputies had conferred with James P. Bozeman earlier in the night because of a domestic disturbance involving him and his girlfriend at her Sherwood Way home. At that time investigators told Bozeman to go home, and he agreed.
However, shortly thereafter they got a call he was back. Though he was not at the home when they arrived, deputies found his car at a nearby business on Piney Grove Road.
When asked why he did not just go home, Bozeman said he'd left his wallet and driver's license at his girlfriend's house, which he could not enter. He then allegedly said he knew better than to drive without a license because "he is a law enforcement officer."
That bit of information piqued the interest of the deputies speaking with Bozeman. They repeatedly asked to make sure he'd allegedly said he was indeed a police officer. Bozeman reportedly said yes, but told them it didn't matter when they asked where he worked.
Under further questioning, Bozeman allegedly mumbled he was a police officer with the Pennsylvania State Patrol and even gave a name, hesitantly, of a superior officer.
Through dispatch deputies were able to confirm that neither Bozeman nor the person he'd given as his commanding officer had ever worked for the Pennsylvania State patrol.
He was arrested and charged with impersonating an officer, then taken to Forsyth County Jail.
In his car investigators found his license and wallet.
