November 05, 2008 No good deed goes unpunished
A Blackstone subdivision resident told Forsyth deputies Oct. 20 he is being harassed and threatened by someone associated with a woman he once helped.
The victim said starting in late August he received phone calls from someone threatening to hurt him and his family unless he pays for protection. The caller began the conversation by mentioning an old co-worker the man had let stay with his family to get out of an abusive relationship.
According to the incident report, the caller told the victim he wanted $5,000 paid in $500 installments each month. He now wants the man to pay both the woman he'd helped earlier and the phone bills from calling him for the money.
The victim said he's paid $1,500 already. He said he's contacted police in Florida about getting a restraining order, but the calls cannot be traced.
The victim gave deputies a voice mail log dating back to August plus Google searches he'd done on the suspect's phone number.
Mini ponies go missing
Forsyth County deputies reported Oct. 17 that someone stole six miniature ponies from a farm on Hyde Road in Cumming.
According to the incident report, a neighbor called the victim shortly before 1 a.m. and said there was a miniature pony walking around in his yard. When the farm owner went to check on the pony, he discovered the missing animals.
The victim said he'd recently shown the farm to a prospective buyer. He wasn't sure the man had stolen the ponies, however.
Officers noted there was a trail to nearby Sweet Briar subdivision with fresh pony droppings.
Parents arrested for son's party
Two 45-year-old Jason Lane parents were arrested Oct. 25 and charged with furnishing alcohol to minors after their 19-year-old son threw a party for his 19- and 20-year-old friends. According to a report of the incident, Forsyth County deputies received complaints about noise coming from the party shortly before 11 p.m. When they arrived, they allegedly saw several underage looking suspects drinking beer from a keg.
After ascertaining that the keg had allegedly been bought by a 23-year-old friend of the couple's son, they started arresting everyone who was underage. In total, eight underage suspects were arrested, plus the two parents and the 23-year-old.
They were taken to the Forsyth County Detention Center in a van, then released after being served warrants.
Driver left them both behind
A deputy on his rounds noticed two men fighting outside the Chevron on Buford Highway Oct. 25. As he rolled up, he flicked on his siren to break them up, and one of the combatants ran into the woods.
The other man, whom the officer described as visibly injured and intoxicated, told the deputy the fight began in a car. He said he was riding home when he and the other fighter started arguing about a girl.
According to the report, "[the victim] stated he did not know the identity of the male that beat him up and his driver left both of them."
The victim was told how he could press charges and went home in a cab.
15 guns stolen from storage facility
A Gainesville man called Forsyth deputies Oct. 26 to report that someone had stolen 15 guns from a storage facility he rents in Cumming.
The guns, worth at least $3,300, were taken from Trend Storage on Sandy Court in Cumming.
They included shot guns and rifles of varying values. Numerous valuables were left in favor of taking the weapons, said the victim.
The victim said he wasn't sure when the guns were taken, as he hadn't visited the facility since Oct. 1.
