October 30, 2008 The second-largest home improvement retailer in the world has opened a new Suwanee location. Lowe's of Suwanee Gateway at 3260 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road opened Oct. 18, with an official "Board Cutting" – instead of ribbon cutting – ceremony on Oct. 23.
Lowe's matched gift certificate purchases up to $5,000 with a contribution to Barrow County's Habitat for Humanity on opening day. The proceeds will go to support the organization's next project.
Suwanee Planning Director Josh Campbell said the city is pleased that Lowe's is providing an attractive addition to the Suwanee Gateway.
"They will help establish a new standard for quality design in the area," said Campbell.
Maureen Rich of Lowe's Companies said it always works closely with community leaders to ensure they have a good understanding of what the leaders are interested in bringing to the community.
"Our goal is to always build the best store on the best site for our customers," she said. "We always want to be a good neighbor no matter where we open our doors."
The prospect of the home improvement store first became apparent in October 2006, becoming a reality two years later.
The new store includes 117,000 square feet of retail sales space stocked with about 40,000 items for home improvement. The Suwanee store includes a garden center.
It represents an average investment in the community of approximately $18.5 million, creating up to 175 new jobs.
"We are thrilled to open a store in Suwanee," said Rich. "And we look forward to serving our customers in Suwanee."
"Lowes is providing a much needed retail service for Suwanee residents," said Campbell. "It should make home improvements in Suwanee a little easier."
