Webb Bridge Park gets turf
October 17, 2008
Next spring lacrosse and soccer players will have a new artificial turf field to play on after the Alpharetta City Council approved the purchase from Pro Grass LLC for $585,503.

Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Director Michael Perry said the purchase will not only save $20,000 to $30,000 in maintenance and re-sodding, but it will increase the amount of playing time for its users.

Spring and fall, busy times for soccer and lacrosse players, are usually times of a lot of rain. A good rain could put a sod field out of commission for two to three days.

With artificial turf, it can rain in the morning and be playable in the afternoon, Perry said.

"This [turf] will double our use," he said.

With the synthetic turf, the more it is used the better it is for the field. In addition, a two-inch rubber cushion softens falls.

Perry said the turf will be installed after football season and be ready for spring use.
