October 16, 2008 JOHNS CREEK - There were new faces sitting in the Johns Creek City Council Chambers Oct. 10 - but they weren't elected officials.
Instead, they were Boy Scouts. About two dozen boys filed into City Hall for a lesson in city government from City Councilwoman Bev Miller.
After a question and answer session, Miller and Planning and Zoning Administrator Justin Kirouac led a mock Planning Commission meeting and City Council meeting to demonstrate how a zoning case is presented and voted on in the city.
The scouts went through a shortened version of the zoning process, but still were able to hear the case of Ivy Falls, a zoning application that was voted on by the city in August. Scouts played the part of planning commissioners and City Council members and some were able to give public comment.
The Boy Scouts are working on earning a merit badge and the civics lesson is part of the requirement for the badge. View images.
