October 16, 2008 JOHNS CREEK - A special needs school is seeking a Special Use Permit in order to move into the old Warsaw School building on Old Medlock Bridge Road, which formerly housed a day care center and the former Ocee Arts Center.
The Governess School, which operates out of Perimeter Church, is a school for special needs students who have learning difficulties, according to Jillian Thiele, founder and executive director of The Governess School.
Thiele gave a presentation at the Johns Creek Community Association meeting Oct. 9.
Thiele said while she is thankful for the use of Perimeter Church's facilities, they are only able to use one room for classroom space.
She said using the Warsaw School would enable The Governess School in its quest to become accredited. She anticipates using four to five classrooms, with a maximum of about 50 students. The Warsaw School is approximately 10,000 square feet.
Currently, the school has four students enrolled. Thiele said once it is accredited, they will be able to enroll more children.
And, she would like to organize educational programs during the evenings for parents and summer programs as well.
"We want to be able to offer as much as we can for the community," said Thiele.
The request for the Special Use Permit will be heard before the Johns Creek Planning Commission Nov. 4.
