JOHNS CREEK -- The Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce cleaned up a portion of the Chattahoochee River Aug. 29 as a part of Georgia's Rivers Alive program.
The chamber members canoed about four miles from Abbotts Bridge Road to Medlock Bridge Park. The group organized the event with Keep North Fulton Beautiful, a non-profit environmental education and project organization that works in Johns Creek, Milton and Sandy Springs.
"This trash often is washed into neighborhood storm drains and ends up in our streams and eventually the Chattahoochee River," said Cindy Eade, education director for Keep North Fulton Beautiful. "People don't realize the impact they have on water pollution and also, prevention."
