Alpharetta residents are invited to get hands-on public safety training by attending Citizen Safety Days beginning Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Roswell-Alpharetta Public Safety Training Center.
The CPR program, called Family & Friends CPR Anytime, uses mannequins manufactured by Laerdal, which people may take home. The program teaches lay people the core skills to perform adult and child CPR in just 22 minutes.
"This is something they can come in and learn real quick and take home," said Fire Capt. Joe Tassitano. "There is more hands-on time planned than in past courses we've offered."
It is not a certification CPR course. Participants must be at least 18 years old.
A rape prevention course will be offered to women 16 and older. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a female guardian. No men are allowed in the class.
"This class will help you avoid being targeted. But if you are targeted, it will help ensure you will not become a victim," said Alpharetta Police Lt. Justin Wilson.
The event will be from 9 a.m. to noon. For information, contact OFC. D. Valone at 678-297-6329 or email jtassitano@alpharetta.ga.us.
