July 28, 2008 ALPHARETTA -- Alpharetta has its own destination marketing organization - the Alpharetta Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) - to promote tourism to the city. Its sales team markets Alpharetta to groups, while its marketing team markets to the leisure traveler.
The ACVB has identified and inventoried the main tourism assets in Alpharetta, which include shopping, spas, fine dining and area attractions, all highlighted in various collateral pieces created by the ACVB. The ACVB markets Alpharetta in a variety of ways, including placing ads in premier local, regional and national publications, creating seasonal promotions, hosting travel writers with media tours, regularly distributing press releases, creating cutting-edge technology, pod casts and videos and attending trade shows.
The ACVB group sales team attends trade shows in specific markets, winning bids to host major events in Alpharetta, with an objective of increasing the number of group room nights booked in Alpharetta's 23 hotels. During the year, the ACVB attends nearly 30 trade shows targeted toward major markets relevant to Alpharetta, including: group tour and motorcoach, family reunions, education, corporate/small meetings, associations, weddings, sports and religion.
For the second year, members of the group sales team attended the Christian Meetings and Conventions Association Spring Showcase in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, Tenn. At the showcase, the team established 30 new contacts. Since then, the ACVB has booked the Worship for Youth Conference, that will visit Alpharetta Oct. 17 and 18, with 200 room nights expected.
The ACVB also attended the Georgia Society of Association Executives annual meeting in Athens. This group is Georgia's only professional association for non-profit organization executives. The ACVB conducted 30 one-on-one meetings with attendees, establishing 95 contacts.
Two members from that team attended the southeast division International Association of Administrative Professionals conference June 6. The meeting brought together administrative assistants who plan sectional, national and international meetings. The team established 25 contacts.
During the 2007-2008 fiscal year, the marketing team distributed 78 press releases, hosted 7 travel writers in Alpharetta, received $1.03 million in editorial value for Alpharetta's hospitality industry, placed 91 ads and accumulated 30,000 leads.
