The Forsyth County Fire Department and the Forsyth County Emergency Management Agency have installed the first of 12 new severe weather sirens for Forsyth County.
This new device was set in the ground at the Forsyth County Public Safety Complex on Settingdown Road at 11:15 a.m. July 9. This new device is not yet in service.
The remaining 11 sirens will be placed at predetermined locations around Forsyth County during the next several weeks. Once installation is complete public notice will be made advising the citizenry of the testing schedule of the sirens and what to expect from the weekly test.
Only after all 12 sirens are installed, a control panel has been placed in the Forsyth County E-911 Center, and appropriate tests have been conducted will they be considered in-service and active.
The sirens will be used to alert Forsyth County residents of tornado warnings and are intended to give a critical early warning to those who are out of doors as to the need to seek shelter.
