JOHNS CREEK -- Emory Johns Creek Hospital had a record month in May, typically a slower month for hospitals industry-wide.

"We continue to see our volumes build, particularly in emergency department and the birth place," said John Quinlivan, CEO of the hospital.

The hospital exceeded its projections for the month of May, in admissions, emergency department visits, births and outpatient surgeries.

"The Memorial Day holiday weekend did not have the negative impact on our volumes that we expected," said Chris Williams, controller.

Emory Johns Creek has experienced steady growth since its opening in February 2007. Since November 2007, the hospital has achieved record results monthly.

"We find that more patients are becoming aware of the hospital, its range of services, and its location," said Quinlivan.

More and more women are choosing the luxury setting and Level III neonatal intensive care unit for the birth of their children.

"Our Level III NICU is the highest designation available, and our patients are choosing that level of care," said Quinlivan.

According to the hospital, it has the lowest charges for procedures of any hospital in the area. The hospital is a participant in the Georgia Hospital Association's pricing transparency initiative (www.GaHospitalsPriceCheck.org) that compares the prices of a variety of procedures among hospitals in the state. On all the procedures listed, Emory Johns Creek has the lowest charges of Atlanta area hospitals.

The medical staff, comprised of physicians from the community as well as Emory physicians grows monthly as more doctors apply and choose to refer their patients to EJCH. Currently, there are more than 600 physicians on staff, representing 43 specialties.

"With such an extensive medical staff, we are able to offer patients access to so many highly trained, world class specialists in a community hospital setting," said Dr. Alan Wang, chief medical officer at the hospital.
