FORSYTH COUNTY -- The local government will be looking at its internal policies to see if anything could be done better or more efficiently.
The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the hiring of Sawyer and Company LLC to conduct a county-wide review of internal controls.
Chief Financial Officer Bill Thomas said the process would last about 90 days.
"We will know how all processes in the county work when it's all done," he said. "This is not a witch hunt. We're not looking for any fraud. We are looking at how we do things to see if we can do it better."
Commissioner Linda Ledbetter said she was thrilled with the idea.
"This is long overdue," she said. "I think we need a third party to come in to look at this."
Commissioner Jim Harrell agreed.
"This has been on my mind for a while," he said. "I am thrilled."
Managing Director David Sawyer said he was happy to see the government being "proactive."
"We're always very refreshed to see a government is bringing us in when nothing is wrong," he said. "We are very pleased to be here."
The total cost is not to exceed $67,000, however, $11,250 has been estimated for data analysis which may or may not be needed. The core cost would be $56,250.
