FORSYTH COUNTY -- A Paddocks Mill man called Forsyth County deputies June 20 alleging his mother stole $18,000 in cash from him and refused to bring it back until he dumped his girlfriend. The woman apparently dislikes her son's girlfriend.
The victim said he'd hidden the cash -- earned from the sale of a boat and trailer -- in a shirt in his closet. He didn't deposit the money because he is disabled, and said he didn't want to get in trouble for "having so much money."
According to the report the mother took the money after being kicked out of his house, in which she has lived for the last four months. The victim made her leave after overhearing a phone conversation in which she said she was going to kill his girlfriend. The couple was returning from the hospital at the time of the conversation.
When he got home 30 minutes later, the victim saw his mother had moved all of her things out of the house. He immediately went to check on the cash, which was broken down into nine $2,000 rolls of $100 bills, and discovered it missing.
The victim said he called his mother, who informed him that "he didn't have any more money." She also reportedly said that if he "got rid of his girlfriend she would come back and they could blow it together."
In addition, she said she couldn't bring back the money because her cat was sick and needed to go to the vet.
The man said his mother routinely calls his girlfriend the devil when she visits and probably "views her as competition." She's also a drug user, he said, and he believes that may be the source of her behavior.
The case has been referred to a detective.
