FORSYTH COUNTY -- Forsyth County Sheriff's deputies arrested the same man twice in the same week for different drug charges, according to incident reports.
Rex A. Thompson Jr., a 29-year-old roofer from Cumming, faces a slew of charges after his two arrests, including possession of methamphetamine, two counts of possession of marijuana, driving without a tag, driving without registration and two counts each of driving without a license or insurance.
He was first pulled over on Old Atlanta Road in Cumming June 17 for allegedly driving without a tag. Thompson was arrested when he failed to provide a license, and a search of his 1991 Chevrolet Blazer reportedly turned up a bag of marijuana.
Two days later, he was pulled over for having a non-functioning tail light on Ashewood Downs Drive in Alpharetta. This time he tried to tell police another man named "Josh" was actually driving, but had run off. Thompson said he slid over into the driver's seat after "Josh" had fled.
Thompson also said he "just got out of jail and would not be stupid enough to be driving."
Deputies had
a hard time believing this story, as they had only lost sight of Thompson's vehicle for about 23 seconds while tailing him and had never seen anyone else in the car. He reportedly asked them repeatedly if they believed him, though, and they said no.
A search was conducted for Josh, but no one was found. What was found, however, was more suspected marijuana. It was allegedly sitting, partially burned, in a pipe atop the center console of Thompson's Blazer.
He also gave up a broken glass pipe stuffed in his shoe prior to being booked into Forsyth County Jail. It allegedly was coated in methamphetamine residue.
