Kathryn Bascom, a 6th grade student at Vickery Creek MS, recently won first place in the girls' division and a $1,500 college scholarship at the State Level Oratorical Competition sponsored by the Optimist Club which was held in Macon, Georgia. There were 5,600 participants state wide, and this year's topic was "Why Me, Why Not . . ."
Kathryn won first place at her school wide competition along with her brother, Brad Bascom. She won the Semi-Finals, Finals, Zone and Area level competitions before proceeding to the State level.
Kathryn was sponsored by the Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club.
