Junior Girl Scout Troop 3728 teamed up with Keep Forsyth Beautiful and Forsyth County Parks and Recreation to kick off a recycling program as a project to work towards earning their "Bronze Award." The Bronze Award is the highest award that a Junior Girl Scout can earn.
They decided to help promote recycling at Sharon Springs Park. Temporary bins were used until the new permanent bins arrive this fall. The Troop met April 19 and May 6.
Volunteer Mary Nix (Petunia) helped the girls kick off their recycling project. The girls displayed recycling facts, handed out goodies to the kids as a reward for recycling and also designed recycling t-shirts and a banner funded from their troop cookie funds. They encouraged the park attendees to recycle plastic bottles and aluminum cans instead of throwing them away.
This is a first for recycling in our county parks. The interest of the Troop in recycling in the parks system played a role in Keep Forsyth Beautiful winning a state grant which will allow them to permanently place recycling bins in both Sharon Springs and Central parks in the fall.
The members of the troop are: Lauren Saladna, Madison Maavere, Ansleigh Houston, Jenna Bates, Alyssa Pawlik, Peyton Avon and Clare Reid, with leaders Fran Houston, Karen Maavere and Lori Saladna.
