The Forsyth County Fire Department's 2008 Boot Drive generated more than $22,000 to support the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation and local fire safety and burn prevention programs.
The May event was part of the "Give Burns the Boot" fundraiser.
"The generosity of the community was once again overwhelming," Fire Chief Danny Bowman said. "We are always grateful and appreciative of the support the annual Boot Drive receives."
The donations collected will be turned over to the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation and used to fund a variety of programs. Donations will send children who have been victims of severe burns to summer camp at Camp Oo-U-La, the only camp in the state built for burn-injured children.
Other funds will support the foundation's endeavors to educate the public about burn awareness and prevention and will fund safety and educational efforts.
The Forsyth County Fire Department will receive back 5 percent of the funds raised to be used toward fire safety and burn prevention programs in the community.
The Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation's primary source of fund raising is the annual "Give Burns the Boot" drive in which more than 100 fire departments throughout the state join together and collect funds to benefit the foundation in its mission.
