Cumming's new Gypsy Theatre will present "Gone for a Soldier: Voices of the American Civil War" throughout the month of June.
The play uses letters, news items, first person narratives and campaign histories to draw its audience into the drama of our nation's civil war through the experiences of two friends who fought on opposite sides.
Written by Atlanta Playwright John Stephens, "'Gone for a Soldier' suggests the timeless theme of young men and war," said Stephens.
Danielle Bugay, Managing Director for Gypsy, says "I have seen this show performed several times in Atlanta. The story is touching and poignant. I feel that it's an accurate depiction of what this war was like-what these boys and young soldiers felt, what they saw and how divided they were fighting their brothers."
"Gone for a Soldier" stars local Cumming actor Kane Miller, as well as Patrick Schambach, who resides in Marietta. Mercury, Gypsy Theatre's artistic director, is directing and music has been supplied by Bobby Horton, long time musical historian and purveyor of Civil War music.
The production is geared toward the third through eighth grades, but is relevant for all ages.
"We are passionate about bringing this piece of theatre and history to Forsyth County and the city of Cumming," Bugay said.
There will be a short question and answer time after each performance. For more information, you can visit the website at www.gypsytheatre.biz.
