SUWANEE -- A rock quarry may not seem like the most inviting place, but it can actually serve as a great concert venue with its natural acoustics. The Martin Marietta Quarry in the Forsyth County portion of Johns Creek held its third Concert in the Quarry event May 31, with Starship putting on a show for more than 1,000 people. This continuation of Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship played all its hits including "White Rabbit" and "We Built this City."
Proceeds from the event benefit the South Forsyth High School Band. The South Forsyth Wind Ensemble, a collection of 50 of the top players in the band served as the opening act, putting on a set of patriotic numbers.
Co-chairs of the show, Glenn and Cathi Kruse estimate that $10,000 was raised for the band.
