ALPHARETTA - Mary Anne Charron has been named the new principal of Alpharetta High School, replacing former principal Buck Greene who stepped down to take the top position at the new Johns Creek high school opening next year.
Charron's appointment makes her one of many recent hires with experience gained in the Gwinnett County School System. She started her career as a teacher in Gwinnett Schools, and also served for 16 years as a principal for various schools in the system. Most recently she worked for Georgia's Leadership Institute for School Improvement (GLISI), where she spent two years helping educational leaders improve student achievement and graduation rates.
Charron has a bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University, a master's degree in middle grades education, a curriculum and instruction endorsement from the University of Georgia and a specialist's degree in educational leadership from UGA, as well. She is a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development and the National Staff Development Council.
Charron becomes the third principal in Alpharetta High's four-year tenure, following Robert Burke, who opened the school in 2004 and Greene, who became the principal in 2006.
