ATLANTA -- Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson, R-Hiram, has appointed state Rep. Tom Knox, R-Cumming, to the House Study Committee on Judicial Election Reform.

"I am confident that Representative Knox will be an asset to this study committee. He is an extremely diligent worker and I know he will work well with the other representatives appointed to this committee," Richardson said.

The House Study Committee on Judicial Election Reform was created to undertake a thorough study, assessment, and evaluation of the conduct of judicial campaigns in Georgia to determine if the independence and impartiality of the courts are threatened by the conduct of recent campaigns.

The study committee is further specifically charged to examine the role of political parties in judicial elections, the role of special interest groups and tax-exempt organizations such as political organizations in judicial elections, and how conflicts of interest due to campaign contributions are handled by the courts.

The study committee is further charged with making recommendations as to any reforms needed in the election of judges in Georgia.

Knox brings to the table more than 30 years experience as an attorney.
