From its beginning 18 years ago with just four restaurants in the park across from City Hall, the event has become the largest "Taste of" festival in the South, according to the city.
Even with the drizzles, there was still plenty of fun and food to be had and thousands made the trek with babies and pets in tow.
From barbecue, to Greek, to Thai, to pizza, wings and cheesesteaks, the growing diversity of North Fultonites' palettes were well served, even if the plates from the 63 participating restaurants got a little water logged.
The rain didn't seem to bother the younger folks much, as they just sloshed in the puddles and played in the mud, making the most of a less than optimal situation. The always popular performing arts stage brought out fans of live music, and the many community and business groups on hand made sure Tasters had ponchos and goodie bags.

Rain date May 17, 2008 | 03:52 PM
Agreed, they need a rain date. About 30 of us from work were planning on going, but none of us went in the rain.

I don't know why they don't do a rain date for this event. How much fun could it be when your sample plates are getting rained on?
