May 07, 2008 ALPHARETTA -- Taste of Alpharetta goes green this year, with more than 150 volunteers implementing a plan to recycle everything possible from the event.
"A lot of elements were involved to make this happen," said Kim Dodson, special events coordinator for Alpharetta.
Dodson said the city is working with Alpharetta and Milton high schools and its waste hauler, Allied Waste, to put the plan in operation. It is a joint effort of the Environmental and Beta clubs and the National Honor Societies at the two schools.
"To continue our efforts to turn green, Taste of Alpharetta, our largest city event, is a natural choice for introducing green elements to the community," said Mayor Arthur Letchas. "We appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in creating a Green Taste of Alpharetta."
Just last week Grants Administrator, Amanda Day told Dodson the city had received a state grant that specifically targets recycling at special events such as Taste of Alpharetta.
"This grant is providing the city with a trailer, 100 recycling bins and 5 carry carts for special event recycling," Day e-mailed Dodson.
