May 06, 2008 ROSWELL -- Roswell police arrested a 27-year-old Atlanta woman on a host of charges April 24 after she used an assumed name to report her car was stolen by her boyfriend.
It turns out she allegedly stole the car first, which resulted in a trip to jail. And the biggest clues that perhaps the suspect, Monique Burston, aka Tamika Lovely, wasn't who she said she was?
A tattoo of "Nikki" — short for Monique — on her arm and a leather bracelet with her real name stamped into it, both of which were plainly visible to the officer that arrested her.
The incident began after Burston, as "Lovely," called police to Crabapple Parc near Sweetapple Elementary School. She said her boyfriend got mad at her, so he stole her 2008 Dodge Magnum. She willingly gave police the vehicle's tag number and vehicle identification number.
When police entered the info into the database of stolen vehicles, it came up reported stolen from its real owners, Atlanta-based Enterprise Leasing, in February.
According to the report, Monique Burston was listed as the last person to rent the car before it was stolen.
After noticing the overwhelming evidence that suggested Lovely was actually Burston, she was taken into custody.
While riding to the jail, Burston somehow was able to jump out of the moving police car. She ran a short way before being taken down by two Roswell police officers and an off-duty New York cop on vacation who just happened to be passing by.
Burston was charged with obstruction, providing false information to police, escape and false reporting of a crime.
