May 02, 2008 Lori Fanning returned to the classrooms after her stint in central office administration and took the reins as principal at Hillside Elementary School in Roswell May 1.
The Fulton County Board of Education named Fanning as principal of Hillside Elementary, replacing Dara Jones-Wilson who left to become principal of the new Sandy Springs elementary school opening in August.
Fanning is a familiar face to many parents, having served as the director of Mathematics Education Fulton County Schools since 2005. In that role, she facilitated, planned and trained more than 3,000 teachers on the new mathematics standards and developed and implemented the math curriculum for elementary, middle and high school grade levels.
Prior to her role in administration, Fanning was the assistant principal at Elkins Pointe Middle School in Roswell from 2001 to 2005, and a math teacher at Roswell High School from 1997 to 2001. She also taught at Westlake High School and in several Louisiana schools.
Fanning attended Louisiana Tech University, receiving her bachelor's degree in mathematics education and health and physical education, and a masters degree in secondary education, She is currently pursuing her doctorate in education at the University of Georgia. Fanning is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the National Council of Mathematics Teachers and the National Association of Student Activity Advisors.
