Cadet First Lt. Sam Dean, a senior at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, has been named the top student among high schools in the Gainesville-Hall County area in the state's STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) program. Dean is the son of Tom and Sherry Dean of Alpharetta.
The STAR program recognizes high school seniors who have the highest SAT scores among their peers. The students must also be within the top 10 percent of their class. STAR students also have the opportunity to honor the teacher they feel has been most influential in their education. Dean selected Maj. Matt Bohon, his math instructor, for this honor.
Dean has attended Riverside Military Academy, an all-boys college preparatory boarding and day school for grades 7-12, since his sophomore year.
