$1M in marijuana growing in Forsyth basement busted
April 10, 2008
FORSYTH COUNTY - What authorities are calling "a major marijuana growing operation" in a north Forsyth County basement came to an abrupt halt April 8 when it was raided by Sheriff's Office narcotics investigators.

Sheriff Ted Paxton said the street value of the marijuana grown, some of which was ready to harvest, would easily exceed $1 million.

William D. Morrow, III, 44, and Linda B. Vaughan, 40, were taken into custody at the home. They were charged with manufacturing and trafficking in marijuana and violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act. Both charges are felonies.

Paxton said investigators had received a tip about possible drug activity at the home on Ridge Farms Drive. When investigators, accompanied by state probation officers, went to the location to execute a search warrant they discovered a large marijuana farm cultivated in the basement of the residence.

"This was the most sophisticated growing operation I have seen in my 30-plus years in law enforcement," said Lt. Col. Gene Moss, commander of the Sheriff's Office's Enforcement Bureau.

Moss said the operation was so elaborate that an automatic watering system had been installed to ensure all the plans received an exact amount of water. In addition, humidity, lighting and heat controls were present and reflective materials designed to bounce light onto the marijuana plants had been plastered on the walls and ceilings of the rooms.

A vent from the basement into the garage had also been cut to allow heat to escape.

"Our narcotics investigators did an excellent job in following up on this tip and busting this operation," Paxton said. "This should serve as a lesson to anyone who is considering growing drugs for a living. Sooner or later we will get you.

It is obvious none of these people have children that ride there bikes in the neighborhood where these people live. Be real!! A loser is a loser and if you can't get a real job and be a part of society that believes in basic morals of living, you should not be a part of society. Grow up!!!! Let me tell you my daughter is the most important thing in this world and if you don't care about something enough to care about your life and where you are going to end up just kill yourself. Stop wasting your time and our tax dollars- Cause you aren't going anywhere with your life any way. Let's see, the dude will loose at least 500,000 in business, his family, and all his life's worth. Is it worth it?

Cops think they are so slick. Well I got news for you, THERE IS STILL WEED THERE!!! there will always be weed there.

Hmm, lets spend $40 billion to stop a few people from smoking...oh wait, thats right going to jail and paying fines isn't going to stop someone from smoking anyway... so lets WASTE $40 billion trying to stop a freight train with a toothpick. It should be regulated just like alcohol and tobacco, but then who buy those items? well probably the same people smoking pot. So yeah, hey government! why not make some money with this plant instead of wasting the money to fight it? But if it was "legal" im sure prices would shoot up faster than gas, if thats even possible you greedy f**ks!

WHAT GOES FOR PROBABLE CAUSE IN N. GEORGIA:

Paxton said investigators had received a tip about possible drug activity

Oh, REALLY!!!!! Do judges in Forsythe Co. know the difference between "possible" and "probable" cause?

Regulate it like liquor sales are

You are right on the money. All the tax dollars spent trying to stop marijuana use and distro. Instead it should be regulated just like liquor is .

Just one incident in an endless cycle
April 10, 2008 | 07:24 PM

One gets shut down and another will start up. The cycle will *never* end. It's great job security for law enforcement but is it worth the $40 billion cost we taxpayers have to bear every year, and does it justify the 2,000 marijuana-related arrests that occur every day?

We've been committed to a prohibition policy for 35 years now and it's let us down, it's not keeping marijuana out of our society and it's not keeping it away from our kids. In fact since the prohibition fails to keep marijuana off our streets it's instead *preventing* us from imposing any restrictions on its sale at all! We're powerless to prevent marijuana sales to minors like we can with tobacco and alcohol because the sellers are operating illegally.

We need to drive the criminals out of the market by taking control of the supply-side ourselves. We need to set up a program to evaluate and license honest businessmen and women to sell it. Since legal businesses don't need to make the same sorts of profits that illegal ones do they'll be able to set their prices at a level too low for the criminal organizations to match. This will force the criminal organizations out of the market leaving only legal distributors, and since they're legal they will be forced to operate under the restrictions we deem appropriate. The first restriction will obviously be no sales to minors. This is unenforceable today!
