Teachers awarded grants for their 'Bright Ideas'
March 31, 2008
Eight local teachers were greatly surprised when they were presented with grant money by Sawnee Electric to help their Bright Ideas projects come to life.

Bright Ideas is part of the Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation / Operation Round Up program at Sawnee EMC. Teachers can apply for a classroom grant of up to $1,500. Their project must be creative, innovative and compliment their current curriculum, explained Cindy Badgett, Director of External Affairs.

Sawnee EMC members that participate in the Operation Round Up program have made the Bright Ideas grants possible. Since inception, the Sawnee Foundation has donated over $440,000 to local charitable organizations, Bright Ideas and youth scholarships.

The first quarter Bright Ideas winners of 2008 are: Ron Schwarzman, Creekland Middle School; Cristina Saldana-Illingworth, Daves Creek Elementary; Donna Price, Piney Grove Middle School; Tammy Bohon, Sawnee Elementary; Melissa Johnston, Silver City Elementary; Kristen Miskovsky, Silver City Elementary; Mark Kunder, North Forsyth Middle School; Patrick Muenchen, Kilough Elementary.

The Bright Ideas program is open to any K-12 classroom teacher whose school is located within the Sawnee EMC service territory or located within close proximity and serves a number of Sawnee EMC members.
