March 17, 2008 Mount Pisgah Christian School in Alpharetta wants to see young athletes honored for how they conduct themselves, rather than just their sports performance.
The school has created the "Outstanding Character in Athletics Award" for middle school students. This will give coaches, fellow players, teachers, and families an opportunity to praise young athletes for their integrity, discipline, community service, leadership, and more.
The "Outstanding Character" is administered by the recreation program Pisgah Sport, but nominees are eligible no matter which school, community, or recreational program they play for. There is no cost.
While many high school athletes often see their names or photos in the local newspapers or school newsletters, middle school students rarely do.
This awards program will honor one male and one female athlete in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade based on nominations that outline their outstanding character. Winners will receive trophies and all nominees will receive a certificate of recognition.
The deadline for nominations is March 21, and winners will be notified by April 15.
Nominations may be submitted online at www.OCAward.org.
