ALPHARETTA -- Living a healthy life can be a constant struggle in this fast paced, fast food culture, just ask Bonnie Mechelle.

Several years ago Mechelle weighed 317 pounds due to a series of pregnancy complications, bad habits and genetics. None of the weight loss programs she tried worked for her. Her weight continued to be a constant battle.

But, everything changed when she decided to take charge of her health and find the elusive key to weight loss on her own. Mechelle became educated, obtained a degree in nutrition and slimmed down.

"I went to school, I became a nutritionist and I also became a certified personal trainer," she said.

All of her hard work paid off.

Mechelle has dropped 140 pounds so far, she continues to live a wellness lifestyle that works for her – without going under the knife or employing any other extreme weight loss techniques.

"This is a lifestyle," she said.

The entire program is about learning what your body needs and finding what weight loss techniques work best for you, according to Mechelle, a Milton resident.

Having found what worked for her, Mechelle hopes to help other people do the same, which is why she opened the Bonnie Mechelle Nutrition and Fitness Company. The company, which recently moved from DeKalb County to Alpharetta, offers a totally comprehensive wellness program designed to provide clients with wellness coaching, in-home fitness training as well as breakfast, lunch and dinner meal delivery.

"We also provide monthly seminars on health and wellness," said Mechelle, who won't disclose the celebrity clients she has assisted. "We address CPR and first aid, we teach participants how to detoxify their body we teach about nutrition and how to eat and where to eat and what to eat."

For those who want a peek into the wisdom and results Mechelle has found, without signing up for the program, she is offering a one-day workshop on March 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. During the workshop, which can only accept 20 participants, attendees will learn how to lose weight and how to live healthily in order to avoid many common sicknesses and diseases from several experts, including Mechelle. If done correctly, the healthy results are long-term, said Mechelle.

"It's a way for non-clients to learn how to do it all on their own," she said. "This way they can develop a workable program for themselves."

But best of all, the entire proceeds from the workshop will go toward the Jeanette's Promise Children Foundation, which seeks to help women and children in abuse settings get out. The money raised will go specifically toward building safe houses for these victims, said Mechelle, who knows first hand of domestic violence and child abuse.
