"The county is just growing like crazy and we need volunteers," said the Chairwoman of the Communication Committee for Special Olympics Forsyth.
But what does it mean to be a volunteer? Medline said all a volunteer would have to do is show up on the day of the event.
"A volunteer would be assigned a station," she said. "It will be all track and field events so we will need people to do timing and measuring. The events will include sporst like soccer, high jump and the long jump."
The event will take place April 18 at Forsyth Central High School. For more information on volunteering or becoming a coach, visit www.soforsyth.com.
Medlin said she has seen the group grow year after year.
"The Special Olympics has expanded outside the school system to include adults and students within the home school system," she said. "That has been wonderful."
The event now sees coaches that are businessmen, sporting events outside the normal school spectrum and money raised for uniforms and other fees, Medlin said.
"We don't want the parents burdened with anything other than getting their students there," she said. "That's why we raise money through our fundraisers every year."
