When Brian Quinn and Parker Addison, both 7, wanted to help a fellow neighbor sick with cancer, they had nearly the entire neighborhood involved.
The two children wanted to raise funds for Devin Phillips, 21, a resident of the Brookhollow neighborhood who's in his third round of chemotherapy.
A crowd of several dozen residents gathered Feb. 29 in a cul-de-sac for a few hours to watch neighborhood children perform songs, play instruments and show the latest in karate moves.
A visit from the Fulton County Fire Department entertained attendees and before the evening was over, the homemade donation box was getting fuller by the minute. The neighborhood raised more than $1,000.
"Devin said he's so thankful," said his grandmother, Jane, who attended the festivities. "He said he thinks Brookhollow has adopted him."
Quinn and Addison said they'd like to make the fundraiser an annual event.
