ROSWELL - Roads reopened in Roswell early Tuesday evening, but Roswell Area Park's outdoor activities have been canceled until further notice. City staff cleared roadways in the park, allowing indoor classes and other activities to resume.

Group activities, such as the Roswell Rotary Club's meeting held Thursdays at 12:15 p.m., will continue as scheduled.

However, extensive storm damage has kept the park's outdoor facilities closed, according to Morgan Rodgers, assistant director of the Recreation and Parks Department.

By early Tuesday morning, city work crews reported several roads closed because of the power outages, downed lines and tree limbs blocking lanes. Many traffic signals were not operating as a result. Motorists were reminded to treat intersections with inoperable traffic signals as they should a four-way stop.

Roswell's Transportation Department employees and public safety employees were dispatched to the various scenes.

Roadways that were temporarily closed Tuesday due to downed trees and debris included:

• Crabapple Road from Woodstock Road to Station Parkway;

• Canton Street at Woodstock Road; and

• Lake Charles from Jones to Charles Trace.

Now that the roadways are cleared and the traffic signals are restored, city crews and contractors will clear the right of way. The city asks its residents not to haul debris to the right of way during this first stage of the cleanup as it slows down the operation. Eventually the city will assist with clearing the trees and limbs that have fallen in resident's yards. Roswell officials said they cannot predict how long the work will take.

Total morning gridlock
February 26, 2008 | 11:31 PM

I was unable to drive to work this morning becaus eof this nonsense. I would suggest that Roswell get better integrated with the GDOT and get better services in Roswell. This morning was a DISASTER!
