This photo of the old Milton Courthouse has been identified as being taken in 1888, on Christmas Eve. Lodestone plans to replicate the building in its Crabapple development. (click for larger version) | | February 11, 2008 MILTON -- A replica of an historic building will be part of Crabapple Mercantile Exchange, as Lodestone Development plans to resurrect the old Milton County courthouse, circa 1888.
The "Milton Courthouse" building will be 6,000 square feet of space in a two-story building. A shop will display historic artifacts, such as Abraham Lincoln's signatures, and sells history-related items. Adams plans a theater setting on the second floor with seating for 50 to 100 people. That allows him to invite historians, historic figures and other speakers to discuss the history of the area. He wants to use the space to celebrate the history of Milton.
"The stories are phenomenal, and I think people should hear them," Adams said.
A prominent historian has been hired, and will be available to help residents with their genealogy -- and to speak to visiting groups.
"People can't really tell you who their great-grandparents are," he said.
Already Adams has invited a survivor from the Dachau death camps of World War II and the last surviving member of first troops to free those survivors to speak in Milton.
He told the community leaders, builders business people and city officials present for the groundbreaking -- including Mayor Joe Lockwood, Councilwomen Julie Zahner Bailey and Tina D'Aversa -- that he intended the theater space to be available for public hearings also.
