| | | (click for larger version) | | February 14, 2008 Coal Mountain Elementary School held the annual Optimist Oratorical Contest on Friday, February 8 to determine finalists for the county-wide competition to be held Monday, March 3 at the Board of Education Office. The students spoke on the topic "Why Me, Why Not?" First place winners were Alexa Davis and Jacob Spivey, pictured here. Second place winners were Beth Lyons and Shane Pierce. Third place went to Emily Pope and Josh Martin. A total of 34 students presented their speeches and 150 students wrote speeches. Serving as the Coordinator for the School's competition was Dottie Culver.
