February 06, 2008 JOHNS CREEK -- In two more months, the city's first official police department will begin its daily operations, protecting more than 65,000 residents of Johns Creek.
Over the last few weeks, the city has begun hiring its first official officers and preparing for the department launch in April.
New employees are being hired from all over Georgia, according to Johns Creek Police Chief Ed Densmore.
The city will host a police officer job fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 9 at police headquarters, 11445 Johns Creek Parkway.
"We're looking for a person with a strong, proven track record of performance, training, education and a person of strong character," said Densmore. "I'm looking forward to being able to provide the level of service that the community has been asking for."
He added that the city has hired 10 officers (as of press time) to fill the 56 positions available.
Officers' uniforms will be delivered in several weeks and 29 police cars are scheduled to arrive in March. All police functions will operate out of police headquarters.

Captain Brian Weaver, one of the city's newest officers, is no stranger to protecting the public – he has been an officer with the Fulton County Police Department for more than 25 years.
Weaver, who lives in Johns Creek, said he is most looking forward to the challenge of starting a new police department as well as serving the community
"Overall, the number one mission is to make things better to become the best police department we can be," said Weaver. "We want to be responsive to the community."
Weaver said he was interested in the position with the new department because it was a chance to start something new.
"It's something I've never done…and I get to be one of the first," said Weaver. "A lot of people don't get the chance to live and work in the same community so it's a unique opportunity and I wanted to seize the moment."
Bodker said Johns Creek owes a great debt of gratitude to the men and women of the Fulton County Police Department who have served the city.
