| | | GADDIS (click for larger version) | | February 06, 2008 Although Cleve Gaddis, president of the Johns Creek Community Association, was born in Decatur, he has lived in Johns Creek since April, 1999. Gaddis graduated from Northwood University in Chicago with a bachelor's degree in management and minor in international marketing. He has been married to his wife, Michelle, and has four daughters, Claire, 10; Kyla, 9; Stacie, 7; and McCall, 5; who all attend State Bridge Crossing Elementary School.
What was the John Creek Community Association's biggest accomplishment this past year, especially during the first year of cityhood?
Membership growth - we almost doubled our membership to 86 neighborhoods (representing 13,500 households, about 60 percent of households in Johns Creek). Community Involvement whether it's zoning, public safety, transportation or government relations we have more people involved now and this involvement is making a real difference. Homeowner Associations are playing a very active role in determining the direction of our new city.
What will the JCCA be focused on this year?
Zoning continuing to define our role in the city's process and represent the interests of our member HOAs. The JCCA will also be focused on the Comprehensive Land Use Plan and helping Johns Creek Beautification get off to a good start. Government relations continue building strong ties with the city, county and state to further our member HOAs interests.
What drives you or motivates you to be so involved in the JCCA?
Initially I just felt like I should do something to give back to our community. Most of us who live in Johns Creek have very good lives and we sometimes take this for granted I did and I wanted to give something back. When many of the JCCA board and committee members left to become elected officials and to serve on various city boards and commissions (I refer to the JCCA sometimes as the City's farm team), I realized that the next few years would be crucial for the organization. We would need to take a somewhat different role in working with our city when often times in the past we were working against Fulton County. I knew that the organization created by Margaret Krueger, Audrey Platt, Dr. Robert Waite, Rene Childress and Don Mairose, that had contributed so much to our community was worth working hard on to keep going.
What is your favorite TV show, favorite book or movie?
My favorite TV show is Shark and I love to watch American Idol, but only with Michelle and my girls my 5-year-old, McCall, would send every contestant to Hollywood. I am also currently reading The Age of Turbulence by Alan Greenspan
Fun Fact. Tell me something that not a lot of people know about you.
Thanks to my daughters, I know most of the words from "High School Musical" and "Hannah Montana"
and I sometimes find myself watching the "Suite Life of Zack and Cody" even when the girls aren't in the room. I love to take the girls shopping I am well versed in Abercrombie, Hollister, American Eagle, correctly-fitting jeans and fuzzy Crocs. I can put in a great ponytail, polish fingernails like a pro, bounce six or seven girls at the same time on the trampoline and, I am not proud to admit, I can talk on my cell phone, answer e-mails and drive to work all at the same time.
