February 04, 2008 FORSYTH COUNTY - The last day of advance voting in Forsyth County proved to be the busiest with nearly 1,800 voters visiting the polls. A total of 6,002 voters utilized advance voting throughout last week.
Voter Registrar Gary Smith said they are projecting more than 30,000 voters will hit the polls during tomorrow's Super Tuesday.
"This compares with the total number of 12,450 votes cast during the 2004 Presidential Preference Primary," he said. "If these numbers hold, we will have 140 percent more votes cast during this year's election than the prior 2004 Presidential Preference Primary."
The Feb. 5 ballot contains the presidential preference primary as well as the SPLOST VI proposal.
Voters will be asked to decide "yes" or "no" on two local questions.
The first reads: "Shall a special one percent sales and use tax be continued in Forsyth County (the "County") for a period of time of five years for raising not more than: (a)(i) $218,702,500 for roads, streets, bridges and sidewalks and (ii) the acquisition, construction, remodeling and equipping of (A) public safety facilities for not more than $17,800,000, (B) park and recreation facilities for not more than $13,500,000, (C) library facilities for not more than $7,200,000, and (D) cultural facilities for not more than $6,000,000, all for the benefit of the County and (b) the acquisition, construction, remodeling and equipping of a parking deck, at an estimated cost of $11,797,500, all for the benefit of the City of Cumming? If imposition of the tax is approved by the voters, such vote shall also constitute approval of the issuance of general obligation debt of Forsyth County in the principal amount of $160 million for the purposes of funding the County roads, streets, bridges and sidewalks."
The second reads: "Shall there be issued up to $100,000,000 in aggregate principal amount of Forsyth County General Obligation Bonds for the purpose of financing parks and recreational areas, programs and facilities, including, but not limited to, green spaces and conservation areas for the protection of lakes, rivers, forests and wildlife habitats?"
