FORSYTH COUNTY -- Forsyth County had an active week of advance voting.

Nearly 3,000 voters had utilized the chance for early voting at sites around the county by the end of day Wednesday, according to Voter Registrar Gary Smith. Smith said they would probably meet their projection of 5,000 voters for advance voting.

The Feb. 5 ballot contains the presidential preference primary as well as the SPLOST VI proposal.

The advance voting sites are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday of this week.

Smith said the number of voters was impressive for the first day with more than 700 county voters taking part. Around 1,000 showed up on Tuesday.

"Traditionally, the first day of advance voting has been the slowest, with each succeeding day increasing in numbers," Smith said.

Smith said they are now predicting between "34 and 38" percent for total turnout in Forsyth County.

"Of course, this is only a calculate guess," he said. "We will continue to monitor the daily vote county and review our predictions as we go."

Randall Smith, who is working the Cumming Library site, said many voters were showing during the lunch time hours on Tuesday.

"It's been very steady all day," he said. "This is really the busy location in the entire county because of its centralized location."

Forsyth County's Advance Voting Sites include the Public Safety Complex, Cumming Library, Sharon Forks Library, Midway Park and the County Administration Building.

Smith said all locations had seen a "steady stream of voters" with the majority using the Cumming and Sharon Forks libraries.

"Our new location on the West Side at Midway Park is starting to pick up and that was expected as it is a new location and word of mouth is helping along with some new signage that we put out," he said.
