January 26, 2008 A $1.5 million auditorium will be built on the Lanier Technical College Forsyth County campus as part of a $93 million bond package announced by Gov. Sonny Perdue Jan. 25 for Georgia's Department of Technical and Adult Education.
Improving education and growing our economy are my top priorities. Meeting the increasing needs of our technical colleges across the state is an investment in both
Gwinnett Technical College will get an $18.7 million life sciences building if the proposal clears the Georgia General Assembly.
Other area construction projects include:
• $5 million, 25,600-square-foot building expansion on Lanier Technical College's Dawson County campus.
• $7.86 million classroom building on Appalachian Technical College's Cherokee County campus in Canton.
• $5 million to construct High School Career Academies on public school campuses statewide.
The bond proposal includes another $11.6 million to purchase equipment for construction projects at technical colleges, and $7.5 million to replace obsolete equipment statewide.
Perdue presented the bond package as part of his fiscal year 2009 budget proposal to the Georgia General Assembly during his State of the State Address last Wednesday.
"Improving education and growing our economy are my top priorities. Meeting the increasing needs of our technical colleges across the state is an investment in both," he said.
