January 23, 2008 JOHNS CREEK -- It's only a matter of a few months before residents begin to see Johns Creek police patrol cars on city streets, protecting its 65,000 citizens.
The city began the hiring process for over 50 police officer positions last week to staff its new department, set to launch in April.
"We are seeking honest, mature and disciplined law enforcement professionals with strong personal ethics, effective interpersonal and decision-making skills and solid judgment," said Ed Densmore, chief of police.
Mayor Mike Bodker said he's excited about the new police force.
"I've had the opportunity to meet some of the officers, and I'm so impressed and thrilled," said Bodker.
And to entice applicants, the city is offering new police officers a $400 to $600 a month subsidy to help with their cost of living within the city limits. Johns Creek approved the measure in the budget earlier this year.
With real estate prices in Johns Creek, where the average cost of a home is around $400,000, it may be difficult for law enforcement to afford a home on an average yearly income of $42,000 working in the city.

Interested applicants should visit the Careers section of the city's Web site at www.johnscreekga.gov to apply for several dozen positions, including patrol officers, traffic officers and detectives.
Besides the paper portion of the application, prospective officers will have to complete a physical agility test, written examination, oral interview, polygraph, medical evaluations and will be subject to a background investigation.
