January 15, 2008 JOHNS CREEK -- Johnny Wyatt, traffic superintendent for the city of Johns Creek, passed away in the early morning hours of Jan. 14, after responding to a malfunctioning traffic signal at the intersection of Medlock Bridge and Parsons roads.
Wyatt, 50, was found unconscious in the cab of his company Ford Ranger by a security guard at Emory Johns Creek Hospital around 3:40 a.m., according to Fulton County police reports. Police believe he suffered a heart attack and lost consciousness, then struck a light pole.
Mayor Mike Bodker called for a moment of silence in honor of Wyatt at the special called meeting Jan. 14.
"I extend our deepest sympathies to his sisters and his only son," said Bodker.
Wyatt, an employee of CH2M Hill OMI, the Denver-based firm contracted by Johns Creek to provide most city services, had been called out shortly after 1 a.m. to repair the traffic signal.
Wyatt joined the company in June 2007 after spending 12 years in traffic engineering with DeKalb County Public Works. Since 1994, he also worked as weekend house manager for Family Initiatives Residences, a collection of group homes serving adults with chronic mental illness.
Wyatt was a Navy veteran, serving from 1976 to 1992.
